Cleaning the rear brakes

The rear of the brakes looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a few years! It seems to have green mold growing on it in places.

After taking the brake cylinders off, I tried to shift the pistons which push the brakes onto the drum. As you can see, the result was they broke!

Both drum and backplate have come up well. Later I need to cost them with krust and then paint.

Front axel

Once I had the floor on wood supported by axle stands it was time to put it back together...

When I took the axle off some time ago, I had sanded and painted it. Welding up the odd hole that existed.

Just 4 bolts hold the axle to the floor. There is a small recess that helps locate the axel.

Unfortunately, during my last attempt to return it to the road, I had not completed the paint job as can be seen here.

Moving into the garage...

Its always good to have somewhere dry to keep things!

Saturday, 17 July 2010

There once was a floor...

Fortunately, at this point a new garage appeared. As if by magic...

Besides the WWII jeep there was an empty space...

First some wood grew through the concrete floor...

Then the new floor of a Beetle appeared.

As good as this was, something was missing....

Engine bits

Today this can of copper grease came. Its used when fitting new screws.Just like these. Its the complete tinware set in stainless steel. So they can't rust again! I asked for bolts as I found it almost impossible to remove some of the original screws.
Also picked up these two CV joint boots, complete engine gasket set and flywheel puller tool at the weekend.
May have to start putting it back together soon.

Noting where the labels are.

A view of the spare wheel well.
No idea what this one means?

This is obvious.
The colour code.
On the passenger door, next to the top hinge.

No 6 volt system here.

Regulator

Left it in when I stripped the car. Can't explain why.
Now I've removed it.
